Hello, Crafty Friends! It's Day 4 of the MFT July Release Countdown! And I am back with another sneak peek to share with you from this super fun release.
Today I have an unassuming, clean and simple birthday card front that opens to a pop-up surprise on the inside. This card is all about fun on the farm and features the new Farm-tastic Friends set, Windmill Die-namics and Barn Sweet Barn Die-namics.
I stamped the images onto a piece of Neenah Solar White 110 lb card stock with Memento Tuxedo Black ink. I colored the images with Copic markers and accented with gel pens. I used the coordinating Farm-tastic Friends Die-namics to cut them out.
COPIC COLORS
Pig: E000/00 R01/20/21, W3
Cow: W000/1/3/5/6/7, R000/01
Rooster: E53, R24, Y15
Goat: C00/0/2
Tractor: YG07/09 G09/19, Y13, W5/6/7
I knew that having a pop-up inside scene was going to add some bulk to the card, so I tried to minimize the layers by ink blending directly onto the cardbase. I took a piece of Smooth White cardstock (5.5" x 8.5") and roughly mapped out where my front and inside scenes were going to be. I used some tape to mask off the desired areas. I used Tumbled Glass, Twisted Citron and Mowed Lawn Distressed Oxide inks and the Mini Cloud Edges stencil to create backgrounds for my scenes.
I stamped sentiments from the Farm-tastic Friends set directly onto what was to be the card front and inside with MFT Extreme Black Hybrid Ink.
Once the inks were dried, I scored the panel at 4.25" and folded to create a top-folding cardbase. I used foam tape to adhere the colored images to the card front.
Next, I diecut the Windmill Die-namics and Barn Sweet Barn Die-namics with Cement Gray, Milk Chocolate, Red Hot, Smooth White, and Eiffel Tower card stock. I assembled the parts as pictured and adhered them to the cardbase with liquid adhesive. I used a white gel pen to add some highlights. I also adhered the goat directly onto the barn.
I wanted to create a little dimension and fun for the remaining colored images so I made some pop-up boxes to adhere to the back of the images. The pop-up boxes can be made out of cardstock or acetate. I opted to use acetate in order to hide its appearance.
I cut two strips of acetate (0.25" x 2.5") in order to create two pop-up boxes for each of the colored images. I found it easier to create skinny boxes that could be hidden behind tires and animal legs.
I used my score board to score the acetate strips at every 0.5". This should result in 5 segments for each of the strips. I used a strong double-sided tape to secure the two end segments together to create a square box. Once I finished all of the boxes, I found that it was helpful to flatten and pop up the boxes several times in order to aid in a smoother opening and closing of the final card.
I laid out the remaining colored images to the desired places on the cardbase. I adhered the pop-up boxes to the back of the colored and into the fold of the cardbase with the same strong double-sided tape. I found that it was best to lightly press the boxes into position and test the opening and closing of the card first. And only press firmly on the boxes and double sided tape once you are certain that you are happy with the position and the pop-up mechanism.
Once everything was in position, I opened and closed the card several times to loosen up the pop-up boxes and making sure that there was no mishaps once the recipient tried to open up the card.
