Lunar New Year Challenge: Sunny Studio Panda Lunar New Year Celebrations

Hello Crafty Friends! I'm on the Lunar New Year Challenge Blog today to Guest Design with the incredibly talented Design Team for this month's Lunar New Year Challenge

The Lunar New Year is just a little over a month away. Today I have two fun Lunar New Year cards to share with you featuring the Sunny Studio Stamps Panda Party, Big Panda and Holiday Greetings. Sunny Studio Stamps is one of our generous sponsors for this month's challenge.

Do you celebrate the Lunar New Year? If you ask anyone who celebrated the Lunar New Year as a child, you will undoubtedly hear them tell you that the red envelopes were one of their favorite memories of the celebrations. An adult will tell you how the Lunar New Year is about honoring age old traditions, family, wishing everyone great health and good fortune for the New Year, and sharing good food. As for the kiddos, the holiday is all about the red envelopes and the lucky money inside! Hence, I have designed my cards around this much loved and very iconic ritual of the holiday. So let's get started.

My first card features the adorable pandas from Sunny Studio Panda Party. These cuties are all excited about the celebration and are super happy about their little red envelopes.

I stamped the images from Panda Party onto a piece of Neenah Solar White 110 lb card stock. I colored the images with Copic markers and accented with gel pens. I used the coordinating Panda Party Dies to cut them out.

COPIC COLORS:
Pandas: C00/0/1/3/5/7, R30
Red: R22/24

For this layout, I used the Comic Strip Everyday Dies to diecut the frame out of white and red cardstock. I matched the red frame with the white inner parts. I lightly ink blended a bit of Spun Sugar and Kitsch Flamingo Distress Oxide Ink to each of the white inner parts for a bit of interest. I used the Gift Card Envelope Dies to diecut some flowers out of white and gold cardstock. I used the envelope die from the Roly Poly Penguin Dies to diecut some red envelopes out out red cardstock. I adhered gold flowers to the front of them to mimic the iconic gold designs on the real red envelopes.

For the sentiment, I stamped the Happy New Year sentiment from the Holiday Greetings Stamps with red ink and diecut with the coordinating Big Bold Greetings Dies.

I adhered the red frame and all of the white inner parts onto a white cardbase (4.25" x 5.5"). I adhered the sentiment, pandas and flowers as shown in the picture with a combo of liquid adhesive and foam squares.

My second card features the super cute panda from Sunny Studio Big Panda. It wasn't until I finished making these cards that I realized that this was a close-up of one of the pandas from my first card!

I stamped the panda from Big Panda onto a piece of Neenah Solar White 110 lb card stock. I colored the image with Copic markers and accented with gel pens. I used the coordinating Big Panda Dies to cut it out.

COPIC COLORS:
Pandas: C00/01/3/5/7, R00/30

For this layout, the outer die of the Frilly Frames Eyelet Lace Die was used to diecut a white panel. I used the second largest die from the Stitched Rectangle Dies to diecut a panel out of Bristol Smooth cardstock. I lightly ink blended the smaller panel with Spun Sugar and Kitsch Flamingo Distress Oxide Inks. I used the same flowers that I did for the first card. I trimmed a piece of red cardstock for the red envelope this time.

I created the sentiment in the same way that I did for my first card.

I adhered the two panels to each other and then to a piece of red cardstock before adhering them to a white cardbase (4.25" x 5.5"). I adhered the sentiment, pandas and flowers as shown in the picture with a combo of liquid adhesive and foam squares.

I hope you liked my cards and have been inspired to create a card for this month's Lunar New Year Challenge. There are awesome prizes that have been generously donated by our wonderful sponsors this month: Simon Says StampLawn FawnRAM Stamps and Sunny Studio Stamps.
